Request concerning the transfer of copyright
for articles previously published in
Annual of the Japanese Biblical Institute

The Japanese Biblical Institute is currently progressing in its plan to digitize all previous issues of Annual of the Japanese Biblical Institute for open access through the website of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). For issues after the “Submission Guidelines” approved at the general meeting of the Japanese Biblical Institute on March 14, 2022, the Japanese Biblical Institute receives transfer of copyright (Japanese Copyright Act, Articles 21–28) from copyright holders (authors) in accordance with Article 7 of the “Submission Guidelines” of Annual of the Japanese Biblical Institute.

For issues prior to the aforementioned “Submission Guidelines,” however, JST requests that the Japanese Biblical Institute obtain either transfer of copyright or permission from the copyright holders (authors). Accordingly, in order to clarify possession of the copyright for past articles published in Annual of the Japanese Biblical Institute, the Japanese Biblical Institute would like to request of copyright holders the transfer of their rights established under Articles 21–28 of the Japanese Copyright Act to the Japanese Biblical Institute.

The Institute therefore requests confirmation of the following:

For copyright holders who do not wish to grant permission according to the rights of reproduction (Japanese Copyright Act, Article 21) and rights of public transmission (Japanese Copyright Act, Article 23) to the Japanese Biblical Institute or third-party that digitizes and makes the articles publicly available online, or for copyright holders who do not agree to the transfer of rights established by Articles 21–28 of the Japanese Copyright Act to the Japanese Biblical Institute, please contact the Institute by means of the contact information below by September 30, 2023. The Institute will not digitize / make publicly available online articles for which it does not receive permission / consent. For articles for which the Institute is not contacted, the articles will be processed as having received acknowledgement of the transfer of copyright.

Furthermore, as the purpose of this transfer of copyright is the online digitization of Annual of the Japanese Biblical Institute to make them more widely available for use, in the case that an author wishes to use an article for his/her own research activities, the author may do so without requesting permission.
